Funeral live streaming at Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady

The seat of the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia is a Blacket church in Redfern that began life as the Anglican St Paul's. Our crew films Greek Orthodox funerals there for families in Sydney and relatives in Greece.

About Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady

Building began in 1848. The Anglicans sold St Paul's to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in 1967, and it reopened as the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady three years later. It is the seat of the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia, at 242 Cleveland Street. Services are mainly in Greek.

The cathedral streams some regular liturgies on its YouTube channel. A funeral is arranged separately with the cathedral office. Many Greek families in Sydney have relatives in Greece or Cyprus who cannot fly out in a few days. We give the family a private link and a recording for them.

Questions families ask

Can a funeral at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Redfern be live streamed?

Yes. At the cathedral, filming is agreed with the cathedral office or the priest, and your funeral director does that before the day. We film the full Greek Orthodox funeral service, hymns included. The family then sends the private link to relatives in Sydney and overseas.

Does the cathedral's YouTube channel cover funerals?

The cathedral streams regular liturgies on its channel. Whether a funeral goes out there is up to the cathedral office. When we film it, the family gets a private link that is not on a public channel, plus a recording of the whole service, including the Greek hymns.
